REFUGEE WORKS
E-NEWSLETTER January 2008
Welcome to RefugeeWorks' news electronic newsletter. RefugeeWorks is the
U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement's training and technical assistance arm
for employment and self-sufficiency activities. We assist states, counties,
voluntary agencies, mutual aid associations, employment service providers,
workforce development boards, employers and policymakers in their efforts to
help refugees achieve self-sufficiency.
By launching this e-Newsletter, we would like to bring refugee employment
issues to your attention in a timely manner. Please don't hesitate to
contact us if you want to share a success story or employment-related news
with the members of our national refugee employment network, and continue
the discussion with experts on our Internet forum, at
www.refugeeworks.org/forum
This month, RefugeeWorks is celebrating the first birthday of our resource
portal, www.refugeeworks.org. The website offers a wealth of research
materials, handy-to-use publications, best practices and training materials
for service providers, employers and clients.

CURRENT RESEARCH
We have developed a short online survey to explore employment options for
Iraqi refugees, and we intend to share our findings with you, during our
upcoming RefugeeWorks Employment Training Institutes. Your participation in
this 15-minute survey will help to improve employment services in the
national network, for this incoming refugee population. Our findings will be
more significant if as many employment specialists as possible participate.
Therefore, please share this survey with employment specialists in your
agency and ask them to complete it by February 15, 2008. Here is a link to
the survey: http://tinyurl.com/36v53l
RESEARCH QUESTION OF THE MONTH
RefugeeWorks has launched a special project on refugee service providers'
employer relations. This month, we would like to hear from agencies that
have partnerships with CVS stores. Please drop us a note, if you do. Thanks!
Also, do you have any stories and pictures of refugees in the workplace? Do
not hesitate to submit stories and photos, as we would like to highlight
your refugee employment stories in one of our upcoming publications. Contact
